Muckenthaler was a three-year lettermen in basketball and baseball. He threw a two-hitter with 16 strikeouts to lead the Hawks over the University of Kansas. He went on to play for the St. Louis Cardinals. He returned to Rockhurst after World War II to finish his degree in mathematics.
