Hawks open play in Drury Invitational today

The Rockhurst volleyball team travels south to Springfield, Missouri for the second week of the season. The Hawks will play four matches in three days in the Drury Invitational at the O'Reilly Family Event Center.

Rockhurst (2-1) opens play today against Southern Nazarene (1-3) at 4 p.m. The Hawks face seventh-ranked Southwest Minnesota State (4-0) and Newman (0-4) on Friday, and will close out the tournament on Saturday against Roosevelt (1-3).

"It will be a long weekend," said head coach Trent Jones. "Southern Nazarene is very athletic and is a talented team. Southwest Minnesota is nationally ranked. It will test our durability. Hopefully we will come home healthy."

The Hawks opened the season with 3-0 wins over Emporia State and Sioux Falls, while falling by a 3-2 score to Winona State last weekend.

Tera Reberry and Kenzie Hines led the team with over 3.0 kills per set in the Kansas City Classic. Reberry went over 1,000 career kills and ranks 10th in career kills at Rockhurst.

Maureen Reilly posted 64 digs in 11 sets last week to move into second in career digs at Rockhurst with 2,131 digs.

The Hawks will return home to face 17th-ranked Central Missouri on Tuesday night.
