Hawks host William Jewell in home opener

The home opener awaits the Rockhurst women's volleyball team as the 22nd-ranked Hawks (4-4) will host William Jewell (4-4) Thursday at 7 p.m. at Mason-Halpin Field House.

Rockhurst has enjoyed great success at home over the past decade, posting a 99-9 record at home since 2011.

Leading the way for the Hawks are Averi Vomastic, Justice Wingate and Maureen Reilly. Vomastic ranks third in the GLVC with 3.93 kills per set. Wingate leads the conference in blocks (1.27 per set), while Reilly stands eighth in digs (3.59 per set)

William Jewell enters the match with a 4-4 record. The Cardinals are coming off a 3-1 win over Lubbock Christian in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Rockhurst holds a 19-game winning streak over Jewell, whose last win over the Hawks came in 2011.

Illinois Springfield (2-6) comes to town on Saturday at 3 p.m. The Prairie Stars opened the season with a 3-2 win over Ashland in Tampa, Florida.

The Hawks have a 15-0 record against Springfield since 2009. The Prairie Stars last played at Rockhurst in 2018.

Ottawa closes out the short homestand on Tuesday, Sept. 21. The Braves (3-4) have lost their last four meetings at Mason-Halpin since 2014.
