Hawks advance with 4-2 win over No. 2 UIndy

A three-run home run by Claire Long in the third inning lifted fifth-seeded Rockhurst to a 4-2 win over the top-seeded Indianapolis on Thursday at the GLVC Tournament at the EastSide Centre in East Peoria, Illinois.

The win was the Hawks' 32nd of the season, setting a new mark for the most wins in a single season in program history. The Hawks' win over second-ranked Indianapolis also was the first win over a top 10 nationally ranked opponent since the 2021 GLVC Tournament when the Hawks defeated No. 7 Indianapolis, 3-2.

  • Avery Huffman (19-9) notched her 208th strikeout of the season, breaking the school record for most strikeouts by a pitcher in a single season in program history (207). She allowed two earned runs on three hits and finished with six strikeouts.
  • Mya Bristow scored the Hawks' first run of the game with a solo home run to right center in the second.
  • Emily Berry and Long both collected two hits.
  • Kaylee Pugh collected two stolen bases.

Up Next

Rockhurst (32-18) faces third-seeded McKendree on Friday at 10 a.m. The winner will advance to the GLVC Softball Championship game on Saturday at 10 a.m. The loser will face the winner of Friday's 11 a.m. loser's bracket game at 1:30 p.m.
