Softball receives four All-GLVC honorees

Emily Berry, Avery Huffman, McKenna Lester and Mya Bristow all earned All-GLVC accolades
Senior pitcher/outfielder Avery Huffman and junior second baseman Emily Berry headlined four Hawks who earned All-GLVC Sfotball accolades, as announced by the league office on Wednesday evening (May 6).

Huffman and Berry collected All-GLVC First Team honors. During the regular season, Berry was sixth in the conference (and led the team) in batting average (.421), was seventh in the conference in slugging percentage (.763) and 10th in hits with 64.

Berry also ranked third in the GLVC with 54 RBI, tied for the league lead in doubles (18), tied for ninth in home runs (10), and tied for second in sacrifice flies (six).

Huffman was fifth in the conference during the regular season in ERA (2.13) and was second in opposing batting average (.193), innings pitched (167.1) and strikeouts (198). Her 17 wins ranked fourth in the GLVC and pitched 20 complete games, tying for second most in a single season in program history.

During the Drury game on April 26, Huffman became the first pitcher in program history to record 500 career strikeouts. She nabbed GLVC Pitcher of the Week honors on March 9 after recording the fourth no-hitter in program history against Crookston on March 8.

Senior first baseman McKenna Lester garnered All-GLVC Second Team honors. Lester ranked eighth in the GLVC during the regular season with 15 in doubles. Her .384 batting average, 35 RBI and 56 hits were also second on the team and she led RU in on-base percentage (.458) and walks (16).

Sophomore catcher Mya Bristow notched All-GLVC Third Team honors. She tied for second on the team in home runs (six) and was fifth on the team in RBI (20) and slugging percentage (.482) during the regular season.

The league also recognized William Jewell as its GLVC Softball James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award team recipient, as well as 15 student-athletes who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. Eva Fulk was RU's nominee.
