Hawks advance with pair of come-from-behind wins

Seventh-seeded Rockhurst used a pair of come-from-behind wins on Friday to remain alive in the NCAA Midwest Regional at McKendree University in Lebanon, Illinois.

Taylor Sedam's game-winning, bases-clearing double in the bottom of the sixth pushed the Hawks past third-seeded Findlay 5-4 in Friday's first game.

Emily Berry's go-ahead, game-winning solo home run (her 13th home run of the season) in the bottom of the sixth lifted Rockhurst to an 8-7 win over seventh-seeded Missouri S&T in the second game.

Down 7-4 in the fifth, the Hawks scored three runs on a pinch-hit, two-run single by Claire Tipton and a Jazmyne Moreno RBI single to tie the game at 7-7 before Berry's go-ahead home run.

Riley Braden (7-5) picked up a pair of wins in relief, allowing just two earned runs in 9.2 total innings pitched and struck out five batters in the two games combined.

Game 1: RU 5, Findlay 4
Before Sedam's game-winning hit, the Hawks got on the board in the third when Berry recorded her 12th home run of the season, a two-run shot to center.
  • Sedam tallied two doubles.
  • Eva Fulk and Emma Reeves also collected base hits.
  • Fulk scored a team-high two runs.
  • Braden pitched the final six innings, allowing two earned runs on two hits and struck out one.
Game 2: RU 8, Missouri S&T 7
Before scoring three runs in the fifth and sixth innings, the Hawks scored three runs in the first and one in the second.
  • Claire Long's three-run home run gave RU an early 3-0 lead in the first.
  • Fulk, Sedam, Reeves and Mya Bristow combined for four hits.
  • Long led RU with two runs scored. Bristow, Kaylee Pugh and Moreno each stole a base.
