Seven Hawks earn All-GLVC honors

Sophomore middle blocker Aron DeRoy, senior outside hitter Shay Spadaro and sophomore opposite hitter Lucas Tran headlined seven players from Rockhurst who earned All-GLVC Men's Volleyball honors, as announced by the league office on Thursday.

DeRoy, Spadaro and Tran collected All-GLVC First Team honors. DeRoy ranks second in the GLVC in blocks with 82 and fourth on the team in kills with 165. 

Spadaro is sixth in the GLVC in kills (leads the team) with 305 (3.11/set). He also leads the GLVC and RU in service aces with 48, and is third in the GLVC (and leads the Hawks) with 376.5 points (3.84/set). Spadaro has a team-leading 159 digs.

Tran is second on the team with 199 kills (3.02/set) and third in service aces (19). Tran is ninth in kills, points (237) and tied for ninth in service aces in the GLVC.
 
Graduate libero Ryan Collins, freshman outside hitter Quentin Huhman, graduate middle blocker Wesley Yusk and sophomore setter Tyler Zippay garnered All-GLVC Second Team honors. 
 
Collins is second on the team in digs (153) and fifth in assists (21). Huhman tallied a .334 hitting percentage, which ranks seventh in the GLVC, and his 179 kills is third on the Hawks.
 
Yusk is the Rockhurst and the GLVC leader in blocks with 88. His 133 kills is fifth on the team.

Zippay is second in the GLVC in service aces (42) and average assists per set (9.66). He leads the team with 734 assists and ranks fourth in the GLVC.
 
The GLVC recognized eight GLVC James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award honorees. Bailey McCue is the Rockhurst nominee. The student-athletes chosen are individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. 
 
These individuals must be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting. The honorees from full-time GLVC member institutions are now eligible to become one of their school's two Spalding Sportsmanship Award winners, which will be announced at the end of the academic year.
