The Rockhurst women's golf team returns to action Sunday (Oct. 11) as the Hawks travel to Hot Springs, Arkansas, for the Battle for the Belt, hosted by Henderson State University at Hot Springs Country Club.
The two-day tournament will run Sunday through Monday (Oct. 11-12), featuring a competitive 13-team field as Rockhurst looks to build on its strong start to the fall season. The Hawks enter the tournament coming off a runner-up finish at the Women's Kansas City Cup, hosted by William Jewell. Rockhurst finished second among eight teams after posting rounds of 309, 317 and 309, closing the tournament at 71-over par. The Hawks placed three golfers inside the top 10 and led the entire field with 24 birdies over the three rounds.
Senior Arantza Zepeda led Rockhurst with a seventh-place finish at 16-over par, followed by Audrey Smith in eighth at 18-over. Freshman Marley Dunham continued her impressive start to the season, tying for ninth at 19-over.The Hawks also received a strong final-round performance from Ella Green, who fired a two-over-par round with three birdies, the second-best final-round score in the tournament field.
Dunham has been another bright spot for Rockhurst this fall. The freshman earned Great Lakes Valley Conference Women's Golfer of the Week honors following her collegiate debut at the MSSU Women's Fall Invitational. Dunham tied for sixth individually at five-over par, highlighted by an even-par 72 in the final round. She also tied for second in the field in par-3 scoring at two-under par while recording four birdies and 23 pars over the two rounds.
Rockhurst has demonstrated its depth early in the season, with multiple golfers contributing strong individual rounds and top-10 finishes. The Hawks will look to carry that momentum into Arkansas as they compete against 12 other teams at the Battle for the Belt, beginning Sunday at Hot Springs Country Club.
