Rockhurst women's golf put together a strong three-round performance to finish second at the Women's Kansas City Cup, hosted by William Jewell at Paradise Pointe Golf Complex in Smithville, Missouri on Tuesday (Sept. 22).

The Hawks posted rounds of 309, 317 and 309 to finish the tournament at 71-over par. Rockhurst closed the tournament with one of its best performances of the week, firing a 309 in the final round to secure the runner-up finish. Rockhurst placed three golfers inside the top 10 individually, led by Arantza Zepeda in seventh place at 16-over par. Audrey Smith followed closely in eighth at 18-over, while freshman Marley Dunham continued the strong start to her collegiate career by tying for ninth at 19-over.

The Hawks showed their depth throughout the tournament, particularly in the opening round. Romina Sanchez led Rockhurst with three birdies in the first 18 holes, while Zepeda and Dunham each carded rounds of four-over par. Smith and Ella Green added two birdies apiece to help Rockhurst open with a 309.

Zepeda continued to lead the way in the second round, shooting six-over while recording two birdies. Smith also collected a pair of birdies as the Hawks battled through their highest-scoring round of the tournament with a 317.

Rockhurst saved another strong performance for the final 18 holes. Green delivered the Hawks' best round of the day and the second best in the competition field, firing a two-over-par round with three birdies. Her performance helped Rockhurst close with a 309 and finish the tournament on a high note.

Beyond the final scores, Rockhurst was one of the most productive teams in the field throughout the three rounds. The Hawks led all eight teams with 24 birdies and finished second with 149 pars. They also ranked second in the field in both par-3 scoring at 3.33 and par-5 scoring at 5.23.

Smith was especially effective in creating scoring opportunities, finishing second among all individuals with seven birdies. Green and Sanchez each added five birdies, Dunham recorded four and Zepeda finished with three, accounting for Rockhurst's tournament-leading total of 24. Zepeda's consistency also stood out, as she recorded 35 pars, fifth-most in the field, while Dunham added 32.

The Hawks also had several strong performances across the different hole types. Smith tied for second in the field in par-3 scoring at even par, while Zepeda played the par-5 holes at even par. Dunham was among the tournament's best on par 4s, tying for fifth at eight-over across the three rounds.

With three top-10 finishers, 24 birdies and a strong closing round, Rockhurst wrapped up the Kansas City Cup with another strong showing during its fall season.
