The Rockhurst softball team begins the 2025 season on Monday in Edmond, Oklahoma.
Rockhurst alumna Dana Goss enters her second year as the Hawks'Â head coach with six returners and 14 newcomers, including six transfers and eight freshmen.
"The weather has been tough on us this offseason, but they are doing a great job of continuing to work hard and get better no matter the circumstances," Goss said. "Playing top teams right out of the gate who have already logged innings will be a huge challenge, but I am excited to see us step up to it."
The Hawks will open up against two ranked opponents on Monday, beginning with No. 13 Central Oklahoma at noon and No. 8 Rogers State at 2:30 p.m.
Avery Huffman and Anna Stephen are returning pitchers. Joining the pitching staff is junior Madeline McCall along with freshmen Riley Braden and Kylie Jones-Placensia.
"Our team wants to win and the returners are helping the newcomers get acclimated to our program. It's been a really good blend so far," Goss said.
Emily Berry, who was an All-GLVCÂ third team utility-non-pitcher selection in 2024, returns along with graduate utilty player Kerstyn Finch, senior first baseman Jayla Pierce and junior utlity player Emilee Farnan.
The infield will be bolstered with the addition of juniors Jordyn Beatty and McKenna Lester, plus freshmen Aaliyah Delgado and Claire Long. Junior Claire Tipton, and freshmen Kaylee Pugh and Lily Hance can play at several positions. Junior Eva Fulk and freshman Jazmyne Moreno are outfield newcomers. Junior transfer Ceara Swanson and freshman Mya Bristow will handle the catching duties.
"We are excited to have a more complete team with several ways to manufacture runs and play solid defense," Goss continued. "The team is doing the right things to continue to be competitive. We expect to do that at a high level."
