Tsyrenov captures ITA Regional singles title

Semyon Tsyrenov posted a 6-0 record at the ITA Midwest Regional

Semyon Tsyrenov captured the Singles A Draw to lead the Rockhurst men's tennis team at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships on Monday in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Tsyrenov will next play in the ITA Cup in Rome, Georgia, Oct. 10-13.

Tsyrenov defeated Cedric Drenth of Wayne State (Mich.) in the championship match, losing the first set, 6-4, and winning the next two sets, 6-3 and 6-2.

In the semifinals, Tsyrenov won in two sets over Findlay and got past Wayne State in the quarterfinals in two sets. He won in a third set tie-breaker over Indianapolis in the Round of 16.

Louis Keiner advanced to the semifinals in the A Draw where he lost to Wayne State's Drenth, 6-4, 7-6 (11-9). Keiner won in the quarterfinals in straight sets over Wayne State.

Diego Schtulmann won three matches in the B Draw before losing to McKendree in the quarterfinals. Josef Truhlar advanced to the Round of 16 in the B Draw.

Cris Cequea-Rivero reached the finals in the C Draw where he lost to Ferris State in two sets. Arnav Gannavaram fell to Findlay in the C Draw quarterfinals.

On the doubles side, Alex Tikhonov and Schtulmann lost to Purdue Northwest, 8-3, in their first match in the A Draw. Keiner and Truhlar also lost their opening match in A Draw to Purdue Northwest, 8-3.

In the B Draw, Creed Skinner and Tsyrenov lost to McKendree, 8-2. Iago Alcover and Andres Sahagun defeated Tiffin, 8-5, and lost to Findlay, 8-5, in the C Draw.
