Hawks chosen sixth in GLVC Softball Preseason Poll

Calli Wibbenmeyer hit .404 with 14 home runs and 51 RBIs last year.
Rockhurst was chosen sixth in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball Preseason Poll released on Tuesday afternoon. The Hawks are coming off a 22-23 overall record and GLVC Tournament appearance last year.

The preseason poll is determined by the league's head coaches, who, per GLVC Bylaws, are not permitted to vote for their own team.

Rockhurst earned a total of 87 points, trailing Indianapolis, Drury, Missouri-St. Louis, Illinois Springfield and Maryville in the GLVC poll. The Hawks begin their 19th season in softball under first-year head coach Tyler Gunelson.

The Hawks return their top two power hitters in first baseman Calli Wibbenmeyer and shortstop Maya Gallagher. The pair combined for 29 home runs and 93 RBIs last year. Wibbenmeyer, who batted .404 last year, was ranked No. 83 in the first-ever D2 Top 100 player rankings by Extra Inning Softball.

Rockhurst opens its season on Friday, Feb. 10, in Wichita Falls, Texas, at the Midwestern State University Texas Invitational. The Hawks meet Fort Hays State and Southwestern Oklahoma State on the first day of the tournament.
