Men's Tennis combines for 10 wins at ITA Regional

Agustin Cortes won his first two matches in the 'B' flight in Indianapolis.

The Rockhurst men's tennis team combined for 10 victories in singles and doubles at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Midwest Regional last weekend in Indianapolis, Indiana.

RU's Agustin Cortes and Felipe Castellanos reached the Round of 16, each going 2-1 in singles in the 'B' Flight bracket.

Cortes won his first two matches against Drury and Northwood foes. The junior from Bolivia dropped a 10-8 tie-breaker to 19th-seeded Joel Mast from Davenport. Castellanos posted wins over players from Indianapolis and Davenport. The freshman from Colombia fell in a 10-6 tie-breaker Hillsdale's Daniel Gilbert.

Semyon Tsyrenov went 1-1 in the 'A' Flight, winning a 15-13 tie-breaker in the opening round before falling to 18th-seeded Benedek Szombathelyi from McKendree in a 10-5 tie-breaker.

Josef Truhlar and Iago Alcover also posted wins in their opening matches. Truhler won a 10-5 tie-breaker over a Maryville player in the 'B' flight. Alcover got past a Lewis player by a tie-breaker (11-9).

Three of Rockhurst's doubles teams won matches to advance to the Round of 16. In the 'A' flight, Truhlar and Louis Keiner defeated a team from Davenport, 8-5, and fell to a team from Ferris State, 9-8 (7-5). Tsyrenov and Joe Harris won their first match over Davenport in the 'B' flight before falling 8-3 to Indianapolis. Cortes and Castellanos posted an 8-3 win over Lake Superior State and fell to Lewis, 8-4.

The Rockhurst women's team will compete in the ITA Midwest Regional Sept. 24-26 in Allendale, Michigan
