Lewis hosts GLVC Cross Country Championships

The Hawks will be running at the league meet on Saturday.
The Rockhurst men's and women's cross country teams will be competing in the 2021 Great Lakes Valley Conference Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships on Saturday at Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois.

For just the second time – and at consecutive events – the GLVC Cross Country Championships will be streamed lived on the GLVC Sports Network: www.glvcsn.com/.

The 2021 race will open with the 38th annual women's 6,000-meter run at 10 a.m., followed by the 43rd annual men's 8,000-meter run at 11 a.m.

The top-placing men's and women's teams will be named the 2021 GLVC Champion, respectively. In addition, the top-20 individual men's finishers and the top-20 individual women's finishers will be named All-GLVC, and the winner of each race will be named the GLVC Runners of the Year. The top-finishing freshman on both sides will garner GLVC Freshman of the Year honors.

Last year, Lewis clinched its 14th overall GLVC Championship and first since 2004 at Principia College in Elsah, Illinois. The Flyers totaled 51 points to edge Southern Indiana (57) by six points, denying the Screaming Eagles their league-best 28th title and ending their 15-year run on top, which was the longest streak for any team in any sport in Conference history.

On the women's side, Southwest Baptist earned its first-ever GLVC championship. The Bearcats totaled 53 points to score a 19-point win over Drury (72), which rallied from eighth place in 2019 to post the program's best finish in school history, besting a third-place result in 2018.
