Hawks host Cardinals in key GLVC doubleheader

Megan Freitag and the Hawks face William Jewell on Saturday

The Rockhurst softball team (16-11, 5-3 GLVC) returns to action Saturday, hosting William Jewell (13-11, 4-4 GLVC) for a doubleheader at noon.

The Hawks will look to propel themselves in the conference standings, as eight GLVC teams are currently separated by one game in the win column. Teams two through nine in the standings all have either four or five wins; Rockhurst and Jewell are both in that mix, so expect both teams to be hungry and dialed in this weekend.

Rockhurst is 7-3 in its last 10 games. Shannon Greene, Olivia Prather and Paige Renner have been strong in the pitcher's circle, as the Hawks are allowing just two runs per game in that 10-game stretch. Greene is 6-1 with a 1.46 ERA in that span.

Megan Freitag (team-best .506 on-base percentage), Hanna Stam (.495 OBP) and Emily Truitt (.462 OBP) have set the table for the Hawks offensively, while Calli Wibbenmeyer (team-best 26 RBIs), Emily Clark (22 RBIs) and Katie Wood (21 RBIs) have been run producers in the middle of the order.

Coach Bailey Wittenauer and staff have the Hawks playing well, and they will look to continue that good form against the Cardinals on Saturday.
