Rockhurst offense continues to roll in win over ODU

Payton Staggs collected five hits in the 19-1 win over Ohio Dominican.

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Rockhurst softball team notched its fourth win of the season Saturday, running away from Ohio Dominican, 19-1, in five innings.

Payton Staggs and Emily Truitt each went five-for-five at the plate, setting the table for the middle of the Hawks' order. Staggs scored four runs while Truitt collected five RBIs. Truitt added two more triples, after setting an NCAA Division II record yesterday with four triples in one game. Hanna Stam went three-for-five with three runs scored and two RBIs.

Shelby Winkelman cleared the bases with a three-RBI triple in the first inning, stretching the Hawks' lead to 6-0.

Every Rockhurst player that received a plate appearance collected at least one hit. The Hawks opened and closed the game with eight-run innings (first and fifth inning).

Starting pitcher Olivia Prather allowed just one run on three hits in five innings.

The Hawks dropped their second game of the day, falling to Ferris State, 7-3, in eight innings. The Bulldogs scored four unearned runs in the top of the eighth inning. Hanna Stam tied the game in the seventh with a two-run double. Katie Wood had an RBI single in the sixth.

Rockhurst (4-3) returns to action Tuesday with a doubleheader at Southwest Baptist (12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. in Bolivar, Mo.).
