Hawks fall short of berth in GLVC Tournament

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Rockhurst softball season ended Sunday with a pair of losses to 17th-ranked Illinois Springfield on the final day of the regular season. The Hawks were edged out by Missouri S&T on a tie-breaker for the eighth seed, and final berth, in the GLVC Tournament.

Rockhurst tied Missouri S&T for eighth place in the conference standings with a 14-14 league record. The Hawks finished the season with a 20-29 overall record under first-year head coach Bailey Wittenauer.

Springfield pushed across a run on a two-out single in the bottom of the 10th inning to win the first game, 3-2.

The Hawks scored two runs in the seventh inning to force extra innings. Danielle Cross hit a sacrifice fly and Madison Wagner tied the score with an infield single.

Stam led the Hawks with three hits. Wagner and Halle Koelliker each posted two hits. Shannon Greene allowed three runs on seven hits over 9.2 innings.

The Prairie Stars won second game, 8-2, despite being outhit 12-9. Springfield scored two runs in the third and added four more runs in the fourth.

Emily Truitt paced the Hawks with three hits. Kelsey Tepen and Megan Freitag each collected two hits. Greene (20-22) allowed eight runs (five earned) on nine hits over 6.0 innings.
