Rockhurst posts 9-1 win over East Central

Payton Staggs went 6-for-6 in two games on Saturday.

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Rockhurst scored seven runs in the fifth inning in posting a 9-1 victory over East Central in the Southeastern Regional Invitational Saturday in Durant, Oklahoma.

Payton Staggs led the Hawks with three doubles and two RBIs. Staggs doubled home two runs in the fifth inning to give the Hawks a 7-1 lead. Kelsey Tepen added two hits with an RBI double in the fifth.

Shannon Greene allowed one run on seven hits with five strikeouts over five innings.

In the Hawks' second game on Saturday, Tarleton State scored six runs in the third inning to defeat Rockhurst, 7-1.

Staggs led the Hawks with three hits. Danielle Cross drove home Halle Koelliker with a single in the second inning.

Freshman Paige Renner took the loss, allowing six runs on six hits.

The Hawks (2-2) will play Washburn and Central Missouri Sunday on the third day of the tournament.
