Phillies sign former Rockhurst pitcher Josh Tols

Former Rockhurst pitcher Josh Tols signed with the Philadelphia Phillies.
The Philadelphia Phillies signed former Rockhurst pitcher Josh Tols to a minor league contract. The 27-year-old left-hander spent the 2017 season pitching in his native Australia.

Tols will add minor league bullpen depth for the Phillies. He pitched for the Adelaide Acades last year and was a member of the Australian national baseball team at the 2017 World Baseball Classic. Tols posted a 4-1 record and was fourth in the ABL with a 2.23 ERA.

The 5-foot-7 Tols won seven games over two seasons with the Kansas City T-Bones in 2015-16 while striking out 109 in 115.2 innings. Tols was 9-2 with a 2.38 ERA and 46 strikeouts in 34 innings pitched for Adelaide in 2014, earning him ABL Rookie of the Year and Reliever of the Year honors.

Tols pitched for Rockhurst from 2012-14. He was 6-2 with a 3.36 ERA in 2012 and redshirted in 2013 due to a shoulder injury. In 2014, he was 4-7 with a 2.60 ERA and struck out 71 in 69. 1 innnings. He led the GLVC in strikeouts and was named second-team All-GLVC. He began his pro career with the Las Vegas in the Pecos League in 2014.
