Hawks gain split with 8-2 win at Truman State

Bridgette Sappington pitched 13 innings in Game 2 to win her 19th game of the season.

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Rockhurst scored six runs in the 13th inning to post an 8-2 victory over Truman State in the second game of a conference doubleheader Saturday in Kirksville, Mo.

The Hawks (27-17) remain in first place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference with a 16-4 record with 10 games left in the regular season.

Lauren Cairo doubled home two runs to give the Hawks a 4-2 lead in the 13th inning. Madison Wagner singled home another run and Kelsey Tepen added a two-run single.

Bridgette Sappington (19-5) went the distance, allowing two unearned runs on eight hits with seven walks and five strikeouts. Wagner, Tepen, Cairo and Hannah Pyle each collected two hits as the Hawks finished with 12 hits.

Truman State broke a tie score in the bottom of the sixth to win the first game, 4-3. Wagner, Tepen and Lauren Marks each had two hits. Sappington took the loss in relief of starter Shannon Greene.
