Late rally leads Hawks over Winona State

Danielle Cross drove in two runs with a double against Winona State.

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Rockhurst won two extra-inning games on Tuesday in the Spring Games in Clermont, Fla. The Hawks edged Winona State, 4-3, in eight innings and came back to defeat Trevecca Nazarene, 3-1, in eight innings.

Lauren Marks drove in the winning run with a bases-loaded walk against Winona State. Rockhurst took a 3-0 lead in the third on a two-run double by Danielle Cross, who led the Hawks with two hits. Payton Staggs (1-1) pitched the final two innings to get the win for the Hawks.

Rockhurst scored three runs in the top of the eighth to break a 0-0 deadlock against Trevecca Nazarene. Staggs singled home the first run. Lexie Zuniga added a run-scoring single and Cross plated the third run on a bases-loaded walk. Bridgette Sappington (7-3) allowed one unearned run on no hits over the final four innings.

The Hawks (10-8) play Cedarville and Grand Valley State on Thursday in Florida.
