Hawks rally late for 4-3 win over Wayne State

Bridgette Sappington won her sixth game of the season with a complete game five-hitter.

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Rockhurst scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to rally for a 4-3 victory over Wayne State College Monday in the Spring Games in Clermont, Fla.

Payton Staggs drove in the winning run with a two-out double to left field. Lauren Marks tied the score with a two-run double to center field in the seventh. Lauren Cairo and Hannah Pyle set up the two-out rally with back-to-back singles.

Pyle led the Hawks with three hits and one RBI. Cairo, Staggs and Danielle Cross each posted two hits. Bridgette Sappington (6-3) allowed three runs on five hits in 7.0 innings.

The Hawks lost to Ashland 3-2 earlier the day. Hanna Stam hit a two-run home run in the first inning. Taylor Rupe and Kelsey Tepen each collected two hits. Shannon Greene (2-4) allowed three runs on seven hits in 6.0 innings.

The Hawks (8-8) play Winona State and Trevecca Nazarene on Tuesday in Florida.
