Box Score 2 Bridgette Sappington pitched her second three-hit shutout over Pittsburg State in less than two weeks. The senior right-hander (3-1) only allowed three base runners in Rockhurst's 4-0 victory over the Gorillas on the first day of the 8-State Classic in Bentonville, Ark.

Rockhurst opened the tournament with a 9-4 loss to Southwest Baptist. The Bearcats scored six runs in the fifth inning to take an 8-3 lead.
Hanna Stam went 3-for-3 at the plate with two doubles. Staggs drove in three runs with a sacrifice fly in the first and a two-run home run in the third.
Kelsey Tepen added a solo home run in the fifth.
Shannon Greene (1-2) allowed five runs on eight hits in 6.1 innings with five strikeouts.
The Hawks play Rogers State and Nebraska-Kearney on Saturday afternoon in the 8-State Classic.
