Box Score 2 Rockhurst remained unbeaten at home with a sweep over Truman State, 5-4 and 12-8, Saturday at Loyola Park while moving into first place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference West Division.
The Hawks, 27-21 overall and 11-0 at home, can clinch a share of the division title with a win over Truman State in their final regular season game at 11 a.m. Sunday (May 8). Rockhurst is one-half game in front of Missouri S&T with an 18-9 conference record.
Mitch Stickney was the hero in Saturday's first game. The junior right fielder hit a walk-off double to left-center with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Rockhurst rallied from a 4-2 deficit in the sixth.
David Stober tied the score with a two-run single after a hit batsman and throwing error put two runners on base.
Stober led the Hawks with two hits and three RBIs. Stickney,
Henry Weiler,
Seth Soto and
Nick Pascuzzi also finished with two hits.
Alex Merithew (5-4) picked up the win in relief of starter
Andrew Ellwanger, who allowed four runs on eight hits and struck out three in 5.1 innings.
Soto paced the Hawks with four hits and three RBIs in the second game. The junior third baseman singled home two runs in the first and doubled home another run in the fifth.
The Hawks scored five runs in the first and took an 8-1 in the third on a three-run home run by
Tim Mahoney. A three-run fifth gave Rockhurst an 11-6 lead.
Stober and Mahoney each collected three hits in the 18-hit Rockhurst attack. Weiler and Mikulka added two hits apiece.
Kyle Downey drove in two runs with a double in the first.
Thomas Cargile (6-1) pitched the first five innings and
Jake Goessling went the last four innings to pick up his first save of the season.
