Box Score 2 Tenth-ranked Quincy took over sole possession of first place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference West Division with two wins over Rockhurst Friday in Quincy, Illinois.
In the opening game, Quincy overcame a 6-1 deficit in the eighth inning to defeat Rockhurst 7-6 in 13 innings. Quincy posted a 5-0 shutout win in the second game.
Rockhurst scored four runs in the eighth to take a 6-1 lead.
Brandon Mikulka and
Henry Weiler each hit RBI doubles, while
Joey Mancuso hit a two-run single. Weiler homered in the fourth and
Seth Soto hit a run-scoring single in the first.
Quincy came right back to tally five runs in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game. The home team won the game on a one-out single in the 13th inning.
Weiler went 5-for-5 at the plate. Mancuso and David Sober added two hits each.
Alex Merithew (3-4) allowed one run on seven hits over the final 4.2 innings.
In the second game, Quincy jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and added two runs in the sixth. Rockhurst failed to score despite collecting nine hits.
Weiler, Mancuso, Stober and
Garrett Weber led the Hawks with two hits apiece. Wieler (7-3) allowed five runs on eight hits in 6.0 innings with three strikeouts and five walks.
Rockhurst (23-20, 14-8 GLVC) closes out the four-game series at Quincy on Saturday afternoon.
