Box Score 2 Bridgette Sappington threw a two-hit shutout to lead Rockhurst to an 8-0 victory over Quincy in the second game of a conference doubleheader Sunday at Loyola Park.
Sappington (9-13) struck out five and walked one in 6.0 innings while recording 11 groundball outs in posting her second shutout of the season.
Rockhurst scored five runs in the third and ended the game early with a three-run sixth inning.
Madison Wagner led the Hawks with three hits and three stolen bases.
Danielle Cross struck the big blow with a three-run home run to center field in the third. It was her second collegiate homer and the first she has hit at Loyola Park.
Hannah Pyle and
Rachel Evans collected RBI singles in the third.
Alex Hill,
Emily Truitt and
Lexie Zuniga added RBI hits in the sixth.
Quincy edged the Hawks, 2-1, in the first game. Quincy scored twice in the sixth with a double.
Alex Hill tripled home the Hawks' run in the seventh.
Shannon Greene (7-12) allowed two runs on four hits in 7.0 innings with three strikeouts.
The Hawks (16-24, 9-13 GLVC) play at Lewis on Saturday (April 16).
