Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Danielle Cross keyed a two-run sixth inning to lead Rockhurst to a 2-1 victory over Newman in the first game on a doubleheader Wednesday in Wichita, Kansas.

Cross hit a one-out double down the left-field line to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead in the sixth. Cross scored the second run aided by an error by the Newman center fielder after an Emily Truitt single to center field.

Hannah Pyle, Cross and Rachel Evans each posted two hits. Shannon Greene (3-5) gave up one run on three hits over 7.0 innings.

Newman came back to win the second game, 7-2. The Jets scored three runs in the second, two in the third and two more in the fifth. Lexie Zuniga led the Hawks with two hits with a solo home run. Bridgette Sappington (4-6) allowed seven runs on 11 hits in 6.0 innings.

The Hawks (7-11) will open conference play at Indianapolis on Saturday (March 12).
