Box Score 2 Rockhurst scored four runs in the bottom of the 14th inning to rally for an amazing 6-5 victory over Bellarmine in the second game of a conference doubleheader Sunday at Loyola Park.
Lexie Zuniga drove in the winning run with a one-out infield single in the 14th. The Hawks opened the inning with four consecutive hits.
Hannah Pyle drove in two runs with a single and
Caroline Lipp doubled home the tying run.
Rockhurst scored two runs in the sixth to force extra innings.
Alex Hill's single tied the score at 2-2 with a two-out single in the sixth.
Gabbie Boerema,
Danielle Cross and Zuniga each collected three hits to pace the 19-hit Rockhurst attack.
Hannah Pyle, Lipp and
Taylor Rupe tallied two hits apiece.
Bridgette Sappington (6-8) allowed five runs on 16 hits over 14.0 innings.
Bellarmine won the first game, 5-3, despite being outhit 13-7 by the Hawks. The Knights scored three runs in the first inning and added single runs in the fourth and sixth.
Madison Wagner and Pyle led the Hawks with three hits apiece. Boerema and Lipp each posted two hits.
Shannon Greene (3-9) allowed four runs on four hits in 2.1 innings.
The Hawks (9-17, 2-6 GLVC) play at Maryville on Friday (March 25).
