Six seniors face Jewell in final home game

Dominique Washington ranks seventh in the GLVC in scoring.
The Rockhurst Hawks (12-13, 7-10 GLVC) host the William Jewell Cardinals (8-17, 3-14 GLVC) in a Great Lakes Valley Conference West Division matchup at 7:30 p.m. Thursday (February 25) on Senior Night at Mason-Halpin Field House.

The Hawks won their last meeting, 86-78, at Jewell earlier this season. Jewell has won 11 of the last 15 meetings in the series. This marks the final home games for seniors Joshua Brannon, John Burke, Scott McMeekin, Josh Roberts, Dominique Washington and David Wingerson.

Rockhurst has clinched the No. 9 seed in the GLVC Tournament and will play at No. 8 seed Southern Indiana in a first-round game on Sunday.

"Although I have only coached these seniors for one season, they have made a great impact on the future of our program," said Rockhurst coach Drew Diener. "They are all team first guys. Their unselfishness this season has been a huge reason for our improvement. Playing well and winning our last home game for and with them is important."

Dominique Washington ranks seventh in scoring (18.2), 18th in rebounding (5.8) and 15th in field goal percentage (54.7) in the GLVC. Malachi Nix leads the GLVC and ranks 22nd in the nation in assists (5.6). Nix also stands 12th in steals (1.4), 10th in assist/turnover ratio and ninth in minutes played (32.3) in the GLVC. Austin LeVan ranks 28th in scoring (12.0) and ninth in 3-point field goals made (2.2) in the GLVC. Alex Hagan ranks seventh in rebounding (6.9) and third in offensive rebounds (2.5) in the GLVC. Adam Fatkin stands fifth in field goal percentage (59.7) in the GLVC.

Rockhurst suffered an 84-74 loss at home to Truman State last Saturday. Austin LeVan led the Hawks with 21 points. Dominique Washington posted 13 points and six rebounds. Alex Hagan collected nine points, eight rebounds and four assists. Malachi Nix finished with eight points, four assists and three steals.

The Cardinals are coming off an 89-80 loss at home to Quincy last Saturday. Senior guard Darius Tomlin leads the Cardinals in scoring (16.3, ninth in GLVC). Junior forward Austin Regier ranks second in rebounding (8.6) in the GLVC. Sophomore guard Patrick Whelan ranks 22nd in scoring (13.9) and fifth in 3-point field goals made (2.3) in the GLVC. Larry Holley is in his 37th season as Jewell's head coach.
