Freshman outside hitter Alyssa Woodman became the fourth player from Rockhurst to earn the Freshman of the Year award from the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

The annual awards were presented Thursday at a reception on the eve of the GLVC Volleyball Championship Tournament in East Peoria, Ill. Rockhurst will face Indianapolis in the first round Friday at 8:30 p.m.

Woodman joins teammate Morgan Rietzke (2013), Kelsey Stratman (2012) and Emily Crowley (2007) as GLVC Freshman of the Year honorees from Rockhurst. Woodman finished the regular season with a .231 hitting percentage and 283 kills in 98 sets for a 2.89 kills per set average.

Rietzke was one of four Hawks named to the 2016 All-Conference Teams. Rietzke, a senior outside hitter, and Mattie Gray, a senior right side hitter, were named to the first team. Junior libero Anne Hellwege and freshman middle hitter Mary Rolf received second team accolades.

The league also recognized 16 GLVC James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award honorees. The student-athletes chosen are individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. Anne Hellwege is Rockhurst's nominee and is now eligible to become one of their school's two Spalding Sportsmanship Award winners, which will be announced at the end of the academic year.
