Box Score 2 Hannah Pyle hit a pinch-hit home run in the sixth and
Alex Hill threw out the game-tying run in the seventh to give Rockhurst a 5-4 victory over William Jewell to complete a doubleheader sweep over the Cardinals Tuesday at Loyola Park.
Pyle's first career home run hit the scoreboard in left-center with two outs in the sixth to give the Hawks a 5-3 lead. Jewell's Annali Dolman singled to center with two outs in the seventh. Hill threw a perfect peg to catcher
Lexie Zuniga to end the game.
The Hawks scored three runs in the second on only one hit.
Madison Wagner singled home the third run. Zuniga added a sacrifice fly in the fifth.
Bridgette Sappington (13-5) allowed four runs on nine hits with four strikeouts.
Rockhurst pounded out 13 hits to win the first game, 7-1. Wagner led the offense with three hits and two RBI.
Kelsey Dean and
Gabbie Boerema each posted two hits and an RBI. Zuniga and
Demi Plathe also delivered a pair of hits. Sappington held Jewell to two hits over the final four innings to win her 12th game of the season.
Rockhurst, 17-11 and 8-6 in the GLVC, will play at Drury on Friday, April 3.
