Box Score 2 Rockhurst rallied twice to sweep a doubleheader against Maryville Sunday at Loyola Park. The Hawks won the first game, 5-4, in 10 innings and came back to win the nightcap, 5-3.
The Hawks won the opener behind a one-out bunt single by
Kelsey Dean.
Madison Wagner tripled one batter earlier to set up the winning run. Rockhurst forced extra innings with a two-out RBI double by
Alex Hill.
Dean led the Hawks with three hits. Wagner and
Lexie Zuniga each finished with two hits.
Bridgette Sappington pitched the final six innings to win her 10th game of the season.
In the second game, the Hawks overcame a 3-0 deficit in the first inning. Wagner and
Caroline Lipp both posted two hits with an RBI. Dean scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch in the fifth inning. Sappington (11-5) gave up three runs on eight hits while striking out four.
Rockhurst, 15-11 and 6-6 in the GLVC, will host William Jewell on Tuesday, March 31.
