Box Score 2 Bellarmine shut down the Rockhurst offense in sweeping a conference opening doubleheader Sunday at Knights Field in Louisville, Ky. The Knights won the first game, 8-0, in a five-inning game and came back for a 3-1 win in the second game.
The Hawks were held to four hits in the opener, while allowing runs in all five innings.Â
Demi Plathe (3-2) took the loss, allowing eight runs on nine hits while striking out two. Ally Foster shut out the Hawks with seven strikeouts.
In the second game, Bellarmine scored single runs in the first three innings off starter
Bridgette Sappington. Freshman
Caroline Lipp hit her fourth home run of the season to left field in the fourth inning.
Madison Wagner collected two of the Hawks' eight hits. Sappington struck out five over six innings.
Rockhurst, 7-7 and 0-2 in the GLVC, play at 22nd-ranked Southern Indiana on Monday, March 16.
