Kelsey Dean in the bottom of the sixth inning led Rockhurst to a 6-4 victory over Northwest Missouri State in the second game of a home-opening doubleheader Tuesday at Bourke Field.
The Hawks rallied from a 4-2 deficit to tie the game in the fifth inning on a sacrifice bunt by
Kelsey Tepen. Dean's single through the left side came with one out in the sixth.
Demi Plathe was the winning pitcher while throwing six innings and aided her cause with a two-run homer to left field in the first. She finished with two hits along with teammates
Madison Wagner and
Sarah Sebestyen.
The Hawks dropped the opener, 5-0, while being held to three hits.
Lexie Zuniga led the offense with two hits.
Bridgette Sappington took the loss while allowing five runs on nine hits and striking out four.
Rockhurst, 2-4, will host Southwest Baptist on Saturday (weather permitting).
