Lewis shuts down Rockhurst bats

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Lewis held Rockhurst to seven hits in sweeping a conference doubleheader, 1-0 and 10-6, over the Hawks Saturday in Romeoville, Ill.

The Flyers scored on a single in the bottom of the sixth to win the first game. Rockhurst could not score in the seventh despite getting a double from Hannah Pyle and a triple from Demi Plathe. Pinch runner Gabbie Boerema was thrown at trying to steal home.

Bridgette Sappington (12-13) held the Flyers to seven hits over six innings while striking out three.

Lewis jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the second game. Rockhurst scored four runs in the fourth. Kelsey Dean posted two of the Hawks' four hits. Alex Jacobson drove in three runs without getting a hit. Plathe (3-9) pitched the first two innings and took the loss.

The Hawks, 15-23 and 10-14 in the GLVC, return home to host Illinois Springfield in a noon doubleheader on Friday, April 18.
