Hawks fall short of getting a split at UMSL

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Tenth-ranked Missouri-St. Louis rallied for a 2-1 victory in eight innings over Rockhurst in the second game of a doubleheader Sunday in St. Louis, Mo.

The Hawks were one out away from victory when UMSL tied the score on back-to-back hits and a Rockhurst error in the bottom of the seventh. The Tritons won the game on a walk-off double in the eighth.

Alex Jacobson and Alex Hill led the Hawks with two hits apiece. Rockhurst scored on a wild pitch in the third inning. Bridgette Sappington (9-10) took the loss.

The Tritons also came from behind the win the first game 7-4. UMSL scored two runs in the third to tie the score and posted three runs in the fourth to take a 6-3 lead.

Katelyn Baker hit a three-run home run in the first to give Rockhurst a 3-0 lead. Bakey, Liz Desloge and Demi Plathe each finished with two hits as the Hawks collected eight hits. Plathe (3-7) was the losing pitcher.

The Hawks, 12-18 and 7-9 in the GLVC, play a doubleheader at Lincoln on Wednesday.
