Hawks end season with a 22-21 record

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Rockhurst softball team ended the 2013 season with a 22-21 record after falling twice at Missouri-St. Louis, 7-4 and 11-6, on Sunday in St. Louis, Mo.

UMSL scored five unearned runs in the first inning of the first game. Rockhurst cut the deficit to 5-3 with three solo home runs before the Tritons plated two runs in the fifth. Natalie Johnson went 3-for-3 with two home runs. Amanda Burger and Alex Jacobson added solo homers for the Hawks. RU's Sydney Fairfield (12-7) allowed four hits and seven runs over four innings.

In the second game, UMSL scored nine runs in the fourth inning to grab a 9-1 lead. Johnson and Toya Nelson paced the Hawks with two hits apiece. Johnson drove in all three of RU's runs with a double in the fifth and a two-run homer in the sixth. Molly Schieber (5-8) allowed three hits and two runs over three-plus innings.

Johnson led the Hawks with a .468 batting average with 11 home runs and 46 RBIs in her senior year. In conference games, she batted .494 with seven home runs and 24 RBIs.
