Hawks drop doubleheader at William Jewell

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 William Jewell collected five home runs in sweeping a doubleheader over Rockhurst, 8-1 and 9-3, Wednesday in Liberty, Mo.

Jewell scored its first two runs in the opening game on solo home runs in the first and second innings. The Cardinals scored their final four runs in the seventh inning. Natalie Johnson, who went 2-for-3, drove in the Hawks' run with a single in the first. RU's Molly Schieber (5-7) allowed six hits and four earned runs over seven innings.

In the second game, Jewell cleared the fence three times while collecting 14 hits. Johnson and Demi Plathe combined for six hits and two RBIs. Johnson had two doubles among her three hits whlie improving her team-high batting average to .455. Rachel Evans hit her first collegiate home run in the second for the Hawks. Sydney Fairfield (12-6) allowed six hits and four runs in two-plus innings.

The Hawks (22-19, 10-15 GLVC) close out the regular season at Maryville on Saturday and at Missouri-St. Louis on Sunday.
