Hawks suffer pair of one-run losses at Drury

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Rockhurst suffered a pair of one-run losses to Drury on Sunday in Springfield, Mo. The Hawks fell short in eight innings, 5-4, in the first game. Drury rallied for a 4-3 win in the nightcap.

In the first game, Drury won the game with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth. The Hawks took a 3-2 lead in the fourth behind an RBI double by Natalie Johnson and a run-scoring single by Rachel Evans. Johnson led the Hawks with four hits. Liz Desloge and Debbie Lewis added two hits apiece. Molly Schieber, 5-6, took the loss in relief of starter Sydney Fairfield.

Rockhurst jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the second game. Demi Plathe singled home a run in the first inning. Johnson hit her eighth home run of the season and Fairfield added an RBI single in the third. Drury scored three runs on five hits in the fifth to take the lead. Johnson, Plathe and Amanda Burger each posted two hits. Plathe, 5-6, allowed 10 hits and four runs over six innings.

The Hawks (22-17, 10-13 GLVC) host William Jewell in a doubleheader on Wednesday, April 24.
