Rockhurst opens season with three wins in Arkansas

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 Rockhurst opened the 2013 softball season with a 3-3 record in the Arkansas-Monticello 7-State Classic in Bentonville, Ark. The Hawks wrapped up the weekend with losses to Southern Nazarene (4-0) and Oklahoma Christian (3-2) on Sunday.

Southern Nazarene hit three home runs and held Rockhurst to two hits. Oklahoma Christian broke a 2-2 with a run in the sixth inning. Molly Schieber and Sydney Fairfield were the losing pitchers.

On Saturday, Rockhurst posted wins over Oklahoma Panhandle State (8-2) and Missouri Southern (4-1). Natalie Johnson, Amanda Burger and Liz Desloge each hit home runs in the win over Panhandle State. Alex Jacobson homered and Syndey Fairfield went the distance on the mound against Missouri Southern.

The Hawks begin the weekend with a 10-2 victory over Southwest Baptist. Sadie Applegate, Burger and Demi Plathe each collected a pair of hits in the 10-hit attack. Rockhurst scored three runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings. Applegate drove in two runs with an RBI single in the second and a solo home run in the fifth. Burger hit two doubles. Plathe added a two run-scoring singles. Fairfield was the winning pitcher as she held Southwest Baptist to two hits over four innings.

Ouachita Baptist scored four runs in the seventh to defeat Rockhurst 7-3 Friday night. Johnson was three-for-three at the plate with two RBIs. Rachel Evans added a run-scoring double. Schieber took the loss, giving up five hits in six innings.
