Hawks open season in Arkansas

The Rockhurst Hawks opened the 2012 softball season with three losses in the Ouachita Baptist-Henderson State Classic in Arkadelphia, Ark.

On Feb. 11, the Hawks fell to Henderson State 7-1. Sadie Applegate drove in the lone run with a double in the fifth inning. Megan Holm pitched six innings and took the loss. Missouri Western edged Rockhurst 2-1 later in the day. Liz Desloge hit a pinch-hit RBI single in the seventh inning. RU starter Kayla Hoyer only allowed six hits in seven innings.

On Feb. 12, Arkansas-Monticello scored twice in the fourth to break a deadlock on the way to a 6-2 win over Rockhurst. Freshman Tiffany Murdock hit a two-run home run in the second inning for the Hawks. Katie McCune started and took the loss.

The Hawks, 0-3, will play in the Arkansas-Monticello 5-State Classic in Bentonville, Ark., Feb. 24-26.
