Rockhurst ends Florida trip with pair of wins

The Rockhurst baseball team wrapped up play in the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational on Tuesday with wins over West Virginia Wesleyan and Sioux Falls in Auburndale, Florida. The Hawks (11-2) open conference play at Southwest Baptist on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Game 1: RU 9, West Virginia Wesleyan 2

Michael Laudando posted three hits and drove in one run to lead the 16-hit RU attack. Laudando gave the Hawks a 4-1 lead with a run-scoring single in the seventh inning.

Colton Wemhoff drove in two runs with a single in the first and a triple in the seventh. Jeff Cisneros hit a two-run double in the eighth.

Josh Syfert, Afton Koch, Avery Garmon and Wemhoff each finished with two hits.

Ryan Hamann (1-0) allowed one run on five hits and struck out four.

Game 2: RU 14, Sioux Falls 7

Kaden Jeffries and Afton Koch combined for five hits and six RBI to power the Hawks past Sioux Falls.

Jeffries led the 13-hit attack with three hits, including RBI singles in the fourth and sixth innings. Koch doubled home a run in the fourth and hit a solo home run in the sixth.

Koch, Michael Laudando, Dakota Hanna and Luke Schultz each posted two hits. Schultz drove in two runs with a pair of RBI doubles.

Cade Luetkemeyer allowed four runs on two hits and struck out four over 3.0 innings to get his first win. Sam Owens shut out Sioux Falls on one hit over 4.0 innings to pick up his first save.
