Hawks sweep conference opener at SBU

Rockhurst swept a doubleheader over Southwest Baptist, 8-6 and 6-4, in their conference opener Saturday in Bolivar, Missouri.

Game 1: RU 8, SW Baptist 6

Michael Novak came off the bench to hit a two-run double in the seventh inning to give the Hawks a 7-6 lead.

Michael Laudando and Kaden Jeffries combined for six hits and two RBI. Novak finished with two hits, two runs scored and two RBI.

Jeffries gave the Hawks a 5-3 with a run-scoring single in the fourth.

Brendan Rodis (3-2) allowed two runs on four hits and struck out four in 4.0 innings. Jacob Merithew pitched the first five innings, giving up seven hits and four runs.

Game 2: RU 6, SW Baptist 4 (8 inn.)

Luke Schultz drove in two runs on an infield single in the eighth inning to give the Hawks an extra-winning win.

Josh Syfert led the 13-hit attack with three hits and a stolen base. Afton Koch posted RBI singles in the first and fourth.

Dakota Hanna collected two hits, scored one run, stole one base and drove in a run. Colton Wemhoff and Braeden Barbee each had two hits.

Landon Carr (2-0) held the Bearcats scoreless without a hit over the final three innings with four strikeouts. Michael Laudando held SBU to one run on one hit with seven strikeouts over 5.0 innings.
