Rockhurst men's golf turned in its best team finish of the fall season Tuesday (Oct. 13), placing fourth at the Newman/MIAA Fall Invitational at Terradyne Country Club in Andover, Kansas.
Competing against a strong 16-team field, the Hawks finished with a three-round total of 876 strokes, posting rounds of 297, 290 and 289. Rockhurst improved its score in each round, closing the tournament with its best performance on Tuesday to secure the fourth-place finish.
Leading the way for Rockhurst was Adam Challoner, who delivered an impressive performance to finish tied for third individually at even-par over 54 holes. Challoner opened the tournament with a 2-over-par round that included two birdies before finding his rhythm in the second round. He fired a 2-under-par round, highlighted by an eagle and a birdie, to move up the leaderboard. Challoner closed the tournament with an even-par final round that featured two additional birdies, securing his top-three finish. Consistency was a major factor in Challoner's success, as he recorded a tournament-high 41 pars, the most of any golfer in the field. He also finished tied for fourth in par-3 scoring at 2-over par.
Kingston Solomon continued his strong fall campaign with another top-10 finish, tying for ninth place at 2-over par. After a difficult opening round of 8-over par, which included an eagle on the 11th hole, Solomon responded with two outstanding rounds to climb the individual standings. He carded a 2-under-par second round with five birdies before delivering his best round of the tournament on Tuesday. Solomon fired a 4-under-par final round, recording six birdies to complete an impressive comeback and move into the top 10. His 12 total birdies ranked tied for third among all competitors, while his performance on the par-5 holes was the best in the entire field. Solomon finished 11-under par on par-5 holes, averaging just 4.08 strokes per hole.
Ashton Vinton added another strong showing for the Hawks, finishing tied for 22nd at 6-over par. Vinton got off to the best start of any Rockhurst golfer, opening the tournament with a 1-under-par round that included four birdies. He followed with a 4-over-par second round before finishing with a 3-over-par final round, highlighted by three birdies and an eagle. Vinton finished the tournament with eight birdies and an eagle, helping Rockhurst maintain its position among the top teams in the field.
As a team, Rockhurst was especially effective on the longer holes throughout the tournament. The Hawks finished third in the field in par-5 scoring at 18-under par, averaging 4.70 strokes per hole. Rockhurst also ranked third in par-4 scoring at 28-over par.
The fourth-place finish marks Rockhurst's best team result of the fall season, highlighted by two top-10 individual finishes and a strong final-round performance. The Hawks will look to carry that momentum into their final tournament of the fall season next week, traveling to Topeka, Kansas, for the Washburn Fall Invitational at Topeka Country Club.
