Winkley, Monachino to be inducted into Missouri Sports Hall of Fame

Davin Winkley ranks in the top five in scoring and rebounding at Rockhurst
Former Rockhurst men's basketball standout Davin Winkley has added another impressive accolade to his resume as one of the newest inductees into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame.

Winkley was recognized in a press conference by the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame on Thursday, Sept. 25 at the InterContinental Kansas City at the Plaza. The formal induction ceremony will be held on Nov. 23, at 5:30 p.m. at the InterContinental.

The Rockhurst men's basketball program enjoyed great success during Winkley's collegiate career. He led the Hawks to a 24-6 record and Sweet 16 finish in the 2002 NCAA Division II Tournament under head coach Bill O'Connor. Winkley, who tallied 2,063 career points, is tied with Doug Wemhoff for second on Rockhurst's all-time scoring list. He also ranks fifth in career rebounding with 939 boards. His scoring average of 18.3 points a game also ranks third.

Another former Hawk, Joe Monachino, Jr., will join Winkley in the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame 2025 class. Monachino is being honored along his father, Joe Sr., for their outstanding coaching tenures at St. Pius X High School in Kansas City, Missouri.

Monachino played basketball at Rockhurst from 1981-85. He scored 1,069 points in his four seasons with the Hawks. Monachino is currently the Director of Athletic Programs for the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph.

"We are so excited to be honoring this class. They all had great careers and inspired many others," said Rob Marsh, the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame's CEO and President. "We also hope the community will join us in supporting their big night."

Individual tickets and sponsorship tables of 10 are available for the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame ceremony on Nov. 23 by calling (417) 889-3100.
