Women's Tennis captures first GLVC tourney title

Box Score The Rockhurst women's tennis team defeated Indianapolis, 4-3, to capture the program's first-ever Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament Championship Sunday in Springfield, Illinois.

The Hawks (16-5) will take a 10-match winning streak into the NCAA Tournament, which begins with regional action on Monday, May 12. The NCAA Division II Women's Tennis bracket will be announced Monday night (May 5) at 7:30 Central time.

Marina Magai won the deciding match with a two-set victory in No. 4 singles. Ella Coleman tied the match at 3-3 with come-from-behind three-set win in No. 1 singles. Dani Lentisco also picked up a two-set win in No. 5 singles.

The Hawks jumped out to a 1-0 lead with two wins in doubles play. Coleman and Zuzanna Szmyd posted a 6-0 win in No. 1 doubles. Maria Baez and Sofia Valdespino won No. 3 doubles, 6-2.

Coleman, Magai and Lentisco were named to the All-Tournament Team.
