Hawks receive first-ever regional ranking

For the first time in program history, the Rockhurst women's lacrosse team is regionally ranked in the NCAA D2 poll. The Hawks (12-2, 4-1 GLVC) are ranked fifth in the NCAA DII Midwest Region poll released on Wednesday.

The top six teams from the Midwest Region will earn NCAA berths. The four conferences in the Midwest Region will receive automatic bids: Great Lakes Valley Conference, Great Lakes Intercollegiate Conference, Great Midwest Athletic Conference, and Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The final two bids will earn at-large selections based on several criteria.

The top two seeds will host first- and second-round games on May 8 and 10, with the Midwest championship played on May 17 on the campus of the highest remaining seed.

Rockhurst ranks fourth in RPI, third in in-region winning percentage, and third in performance indicator (PI). The Hawks have posted wins over three teams ranked in the Midwest Region: No. 6 Colorado Mesa, No. 7 Colorado-Colorado Springs and No. 8 Missouri Western.

The Hawks close the regular season this weekend at Maryville Friday and at McKendee on Sunday.
