The Rockhurst women's lacrosse program will have a presence at the 2026 World Lacrosse Women's Championship this summer (July 24-August 2) in Tokyo, Japan.

Head coach Molly McCourt will be the assistant coach for the Wales national team and junior attacker Hannah Legge will be a reserve player for Wales.

McCourt served as a head coach and assistant coach of the Wales women's national lacrosse team from 2011 to 2017. She helped guide Wales to second place in the 2015 European Championship in Prague, a fifth-place finish in the 2013 World Cup, a second-place finish in the 2012 European Championship and a berth in the 2017 World Cup. She was also an assistant coach for Great Britain in the 2017 World Games in Poland.

"There is something so special about coaching a national team," McCourt said. "There's a deep sense of pride and purpose and it means more than anything to these women. It's inspiring to see a group of players ages 17-to-43 come together for a common goal.

"We have been training hard over this four-year cycle and are excited about our difficult bracket with Canada, Australia, and Germany. I coached Germany in the 2009 World Cup, so I'm excited to see how much their program has grown as well."

Legge also has some history as a player for Wales. She played for Wales at the U19 Home Internationals in Hong Kong, the U21 European Championships and the U20 World Cup. She's currently on the training squad for their Senior Championships team.

"I first joined Wales when I was playing on the England team in 2018," said Legge, who is from Shrewsbury, England and has Welsh ancestry. "I had a close friend on the Wales team and I tried out and have played for them ever since.

"I know a lot of the girls on the team because I came up with them. My college experience has helped me massively."

Legge transferred to Rockhurst last year after playing two seasons at the University of Mount Olive in North Carolina. She played 13 games for the Hawks this spring, scoring 11 points on eight goals and three assists.

"Though Hannah plays midfield for Wales, she has been a great attacker for us," McCourt said. "Whenever her number is called, she makes a difference. She's a steady hand and has an incredible IQ. She knows how to make everyone on the field look good."
