The Rockhurst men's basketball team travels to St. Louis for a pair of GLVC road matchups this week. The Hawks take on Maryville on Thursday night at 7:30 and meet Missouri-St. Louis on Saturday at 3 p.m.
The Hawks begin this week's action as winners of six straight and eight out of their last nine. Their overall record of 10-3 is their best after 13 games since the 2001-02 season and are in second place in the GLVC standings with a 4-1 conference record.
Rockhurst started last week's slate with an 84-67 win over Southwest Baptist last Friday at Mason-Halpin Field House. A balanced attack by the Hawks saw five score in double figures, led by Brian Hawthorne's 15 points.
The Hawks then faced Drury at home on Saturday night. During the middle of the second half, Rockhurst used an unassisted 7-0 run by Hawthorne to take a 53-50 lead at the 9:56 mark. The Hawks ended the game on a 13-3 run to record a 72-59 win.
Maryville (5-9, 1-5 GLVC) fell to Lewis last Friday in Romeoville, Illinois and to Upper Iowa last Sunday in Fayette, Iowa. Before falling to the Jets and Peacocks respectively, the Saints had won their previous four.
The Hawks are 14-7 all-time against the Saints, but Maryville has won the last three. Most recently, Rockhurst fell to Maryville 86-79 on March 2, 2024, in Kansas City.
UMSL (6-6, 4-1 GLVC) last played last Friday and won 75-73 at Upper Iowa. The Tritons face Southwest Baptist on Thursday in St. Louis before their contest with the Hawks on Saturday.
Heading into the weekend, UMSL has won three consecutive games and six of their last seven. The Tritons hold a 27-26Â series lead against Rockhurst, but the Hawks have won three of their last four. Their last matchup was played on Dec. 2, 2023, as Rockhurst won 62-46 in St. Louis.
