Coleman wins her singles draw at RU Invitational

Ella Coleman won the Singles Blue Draw

The Rockhurst women's tennis team opened the fall season last weekend in the Rockhurst Invitational at the Plaza Tennis Center.

Sophomore Ella Coleman won the Blue Draw singles, defeating Fabiana Gamboa of Nebraska-Kearney in the finals, 6-0, 6-3. Coleman won her first two matches in a third set tie-breaker over Washburn's Daniela Tijaro and Narindra Ranaivo of Nebraska-Kearney by 10-4 scores.

Senior Dani Lentisco reached the semifinals in the Red Draw singles. She defeated Alexis Bernthal of UNK-Kearney in a third set tie-breaker (10-7) in the quarterfinals before falling in two sets to Washburn's Saajida Razick.

In doubles play, Lentisco and sophomore Zuzanna Szmyd advanced to the finals in the Green Draw where they lost to Kearney. Coleman and Sofia Valdespino fell in the quarterfinals to Kearney, 6-4. Junior Marina Magai and senior Maria Baez won their first two doubles matches in the Orange Draw doubles before falling to Washburn in the finals.
